Clinton Weigel’s Employee Honored After Helping Save Overdose Victim

A Clinton convenience store employee is being recognized for quick thinking and heroic actions that helped save a person suffering from an overdose earlier this year.

According to the Clinton Police Department, officers and firefighters responded to the Weigel’s on North Charles Seivers Boulevard on April 8, 2026, around 5:10 p.m. after reports of a medical emergency inside the women’s restroom.

When Officer Jessica Daugherty arrived on the scene, she discovered Weigel’s employee Darious Dunson already performing CPR on an unresponsive individual. Police said Dunson immediately called Anderson County dispatch after finding the person in severe medical distress and followed emergency CPR instructions provided by dispatchers until first responders arrived.

Officer Daugherty then administered Narcan and assisted with resuscitation efforts. Officials said the individual responded to treatment and became fully responsive.

The Clinton Police Department praised Dunson’s actions, noting that while emergency personnel are trained and sworn to respond in situations like this, Dunson acted as a private citizen and stepped in without hesitation during a critical moment.

Officials emphasized that rapid action during overdoses and other medical emergencies can make the difference between life and death, and credited Dunson’s willingness to help as a key factor in the successful outcome.

Police also commended Officer Daugherty, the Clinton Fire Department, and emergency responders for their swift response and teamwork during the incident.
