In a statement made on the City of Kingston’s Facebook page, the 2020 Smokin’ the Water 4th of July Celebration has been canceled due to COVID-19.
The City of Kingston regrets to announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 Smokin’ The Water 4th of July celebration. First of all, given the size of the crowd, there was simply no way to hold the event and maintain any degree of social distancing. As much as we wanted to do it, the public health concerns were just too great. Secondly, our fireworks are funded by donations and we didn’t feel that it was appropriate to ask businesses and individuals to contribute at a time when so many are struggling. We’re all disappointed but feel this is the right thing to do. Thank you for understanding and please know that we’ll be back next year bigger and better than ever!
