Clinton Police arrested a person on an outstanding warrant and took another into custody on drug charges late last month. While on patrol on the morning of February 24th, Officer Austin Powell spotted a man riding in the backseat of a Jeep Cherokee that he knew to have a warrant for his arrest. Powell pulled the vehicle over in the parking lot at 779 North Main Street, and took Shawn Phillips into custody without incident on an outstanding probation violation warrant. The driver, identified as Kristen York, told Powell when questioned that she had meth and the prescription drug Gabapentin in her pockets. Deputies found 14 of the pills in an aspirin bottle and a little over 10 grams of meth in a plastic bag, as well as $255 in York’s wallet.
She was taken into custody and charged with the manufacture/delivery/or sale of meth, simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while in possession of meth and violating a Drug-Free School Zone, as the arrest occurred across the street from the Clinch Valley Children’s Center.
The vehicle and the cash were seized. None of the other two passengers were arrested.
