MEDIC Announces First-Ever Tailgate Week for Football Season

MEDIC Regional Blood Center is celebrating football season in East Tennessee with its first-ever Tailgate Week, scheduled for September 14 through September 18 at MEDIC donor centers and mobile blood drives.

Everyone who donates during the week will be automatically entered to win two tickets to the Tennessee-Auburn football game. Donors will also be eligible for daily drawings for a $50 Food City gift card.

Each donor will receive a special-edition football-themed T-shirt, along with coupons from Texas Roadhouse, GSM Cabin Rentals, Papa John’s and Salsarita’s. First-time donors who provide a valid email address will also receive a $25 electronic gift card.

Appointments are not required but are encouraged. Donors can find a nearby mobile drive, view donation-center information or schedule an appointment at MEDICBlood.org.

MEDIC officials remind the public that blood, platelet and plasma products already on hospital shelves are the products available during a trauma or other emergency. Donated blood takes at least three days to be processed and prepared for distribution.

MEDIC is an independent nonprofit organization and the primary blood-product provider for 24 hospitals and air medical transport services across 23 counties. The organization serves Blount Memorial Hospital, Covenant Health, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Tennova Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Blood products donated through MEDIC remain available to help patients in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky.
