Shelva “Jean” (Brock) Canter, formerly of Sunbright

Mrs. Shelva “Jean” (Brock) Canter, age 84, formerly of Sunbright, departed to her new home in heaven on the morning of August 12th.

Jean was a faithful member and librarian for over 50 years at Bethel Baptist Church in Morristown, TN.

With a servant’s heart she ministered to her family and friends without ever passing up an opportunity to share kindness, generosity, and compassion.

She will be greatly missed…

Jean is preceded in death by her parents Freeman and Mildred Brock, also formerly from Sunbright, and her husband Bob Canter.

She is survived by her son Richard (Pam) Canter; Grandchildren, Ryan (Mikayla) Canter and Brandi (Marcus) Finchum; Great Granchildren, Luke, Kennedy, and Harrison; and Siblings, Faye (Brock) Anderson, Geraldine (Brock) Seals, Ruth (Brock) Williams, Betty (Brock) Swint, and Benny Brock.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, August 17th, 2026, at Bethel Baptist Church, 3030 Bethel Road, Morristown, TN, with a funeral service to follow led by Pastor Josh Ogle. Family and friends will meet at 10:45am on Tuesday August 18th for the final departure at the cemetery.
