OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating what appears to be a swatting incident after a large law enforcement response on Bennett Road.
According to the Oliver Springs Police Department, officers were dispatched after receiving a report of what was believed to be a serious emergency. After responding to the scene and conducting a thorough investigation, officers confirmed that the residents were safe and unharmed.
Preliminary findings indicate the call may have been a case of “swatting,” in which someone intentionally makes a false emergency report to prompt a large police response.
The investigation is being conducted by the Oliver Springs Police Department with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Police emphasized that swatting incidents are treated as serious crimes because they endanger both the public and first responders while diverting emergency resources away from legitimate calls for service.
Officials said the investigation remains active, and no additional information is being released at this time.
