The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department has announced updated operating hours and several special events as the Oak Ridge Outdoor Pool prepares to close for the summer.
Beginning Monday, July 27, the pool will be closed on Mondays for the remainder of the season, including July 27, August 3 and August 10.
When local schools resume classes, the pool will transition to evening-only hours. From Tuesday, August 11, through Friday, August 14, the pool will be open from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
Several special events are also planned:
- Open Late-Night Swim: Wednesday, July 29, from 3:30 to 9 p.m.
- Senior Citizen Day: Wednesday, August 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Final Late-Night Swim: Wednesday, August 5, from 3:30 to 9 p.m.
- Puppy Pool Party: Saturday, August 15, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The final day of the regular outdoor pool season will be Friday, August 14. The annual Puppy Pool Party will officially conclude the season the following day. Dogs must have proof of current vaccinations to participate, and owners are encouraged to review the event rules before arriving.
Known locally as “The Big Pool,” the Oak Ridge Outdoor Municipal Swimming Pool was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1944. The spring-fed facility holds approximately 2.2 million gallons of water and is considered one of the largest outdoor pools in the nation.
