Kingston, Tennessee – Traffic on Interstate 40 East was reduced to one lane and even came to a complete stop at times this morning after two tractor-trailers collided near the 353 mile marker in Kingston.
The crash happened around 9:00 a.m. According to sources at the scene, one tractor-trailer rear-ended another. One of the drivers was transported by Lifestar from the Kingston helipad to UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
As traffic backed up, many motorists exited at Midtown, Exit 350, and detoured onto Highway 70 through Kingston, causing significant congestion inside the city until the interstate was cleared.
Kingston Fire Department officials responded to the crash scene to provide first aid and also assisted at the helipad as Lifestar landed and departed.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
