Rockwood Home Destroyed in Friday Night Fire; Resident Escapes, Dogs Rescued

Rockwood — A home was destroyed in a fire late Friday night in Rockwood, but the occupant was able to escape safely.

According to Rockwood Fire Chief Matt Crabtree, crews were called to a structure fire around 10 p.m. at the corner of Tarwater Street and Lakemont Heights Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they found a single-family home already 40 to 50 percent engulfed in flames.

The occupant, identified as Michael Taylor, had made it out of the home before conditions worsened.

Firefighters were told two dogs were still inside. Crews quickly searched the unburned portions of the home and located one dog suffering from smoke inhalation. The dog was treated on scene using a pet oxygen mask and recovered.

The second dog was able to escape the home on its own but ran off and was not located during the incident.

Officials say the home is a total loss. No injuries were reported.

Multiple agencies responded to assist, including the Rockwood Police Department, Rockwood Animal Control, Harriman Fire Department, Roane County EMS, and Rockwood Electric Utility.
