OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. — Oliver Springs High School has officially named its next leader of the boys basketball program, announcing Jared Clinton as the new head coach.
Clinton brings nearly a decade of coaching experience to the Bobcats, with a background that spans both middle school and high school programs across Roane County.
He most recently served as head coach at Cherokee Middle School and previously led Harriman Middle School, where he compiled a strong overall record of 123-89. During his middle school tenure, Clinton captured four regular season district championships and two district tournament titles, along with multiple sectional appearances.
At the high school level, Clinton has been an assistant coach at Harriman, Midway, and Roane County High School in Kingston, gaining valuable experience under several respected East Tennessee coaches.
Oliver Springs High School shared its excitement in a statement, saying:
“Congratulations and welcome to our new OSHS Boys Basketball Coach: Jared Clinton!!! We are so excited to have Coach Clinton join our athletics program and are looking forward to next basketball season already!”
Clinton says he’s ready to embrace the opportunity and the expectations that come with it.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity and excited to be a part of the Oliver Springs community,” Clinton said. “I know how passionate this community is about athletics, and I feel like it’s a place we can win right now.”
Clinton credits much of his development to coaching under some of the area’s top names, including Joe Layne and Shay Shannon.
“I’ve learned from some of the best around here,” Clinton said. “We’re going to play an up-tempo style and pick up 84 feet. To do that, we’ll have to practice that way every day.”
He also noted his time working alongside coaches Colt Narramore and Denard Bertram, adding that those experiences helped shape his approach to building a winning program.
Clinton says his vision goes beyond wins and losses.
“I want to put a product on the floor that will make the community proud—not only on the court, but off of it too. I’m excited to get to work.”
Clinton has been coaching since 2015 and now takes over an Oliver Springs program eager for a new chapter heading into next season.
