KINGSTON, Tenn. — A late-night pursuit that began in Rhea County came to an end in Kingston after a suspect vehicle struck a police cruiser and was stopped using a tactical maneuver.
According to Kingston Police, Central Dispatch issued a BOLO around 11:04 p.m. on March 18 for a vehicle involved in a pursuit. At approximately 11:21 p.m., the vehicle entered Kingston city limits on Highway 70 while being pursued by Rockwood Police.
Kingston Police Officer Dustin Arnold joined the pursuit, which continued onto Sugar Grove Valley Road. During the chase, the suspect vehicle swerved and struck Officer Arnold’s patrol vehicle.
Officer Arnold then executed a precision immobilization technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, successfully bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The driver was taken into custody without further incident and was identified as Vincent E. Ellis, 32, of Knoxville.
Ellis has been charged by Kingston Police with DUI, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and felony evading arrest. Authorities say he may face additional charges from other agencies involved in the pursuit.
