Update: Investigators have identified the suspect as Reginald Steed, who is currently serving a 27-year sentence for aggravated assault, especially aggravated robbery, and attempted voluntary manslaughter. The facility remains on lockdown and visitation has been canceled for the upcoming weekend.

WARTBURG, Tenn. — A correctional officer at the Morgan County Correctional Complex was killed late Tuesday night following an assault by an inmate inside the prison.

Officials confirm 41-year-old correctional officer Dustin Pedigo was stabbed multiple times during the incident, which occurred around midnight. He died from his injuries despite emergency response efforts.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the inmate involved or details about how the attack unfolded. State investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly assault.

Officials say the facility remains secure and there is no danger to the public.
