Samuel “Dean” Norman, 83

Samuel “Dean” Norman, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 6th, 2024. Born on October 31st, 1940, Dean lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched many lives along the way.

Following graduation from Cumberland County High School in 1959, Dean was accepted into the Rockwood Police Force and spent many happy years as a city police officer. Later he accepted an offer to work for Huntsville City Police in Alabama to be closer to his parents.

Dean married Barbara Branam in 1960 and they had Little Dean in 1963. Dean transferred to the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 1967. He was once again settled in Harriman. When they weren’t working they spent their time raising miniature horses on the D-Bar-D ranch.

Retiring as Sergeant after 35 years on the Highway Patrol, Dean was offered and accepted the position of interim Police Chief of Harriman.

After the loss of Barbara in 2008, Dean began working as a barn manager at the Roane State Ag Expo. This allowed him to be in the company of his beloved horses a while longer. He moved to Kingston with his son and daughter-in-law in 2019.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents John J and Lillian Norman, his sister Tina Peadon, and his brothers, Jack and Jean Richardson. Dean is survived by his son Dean Norman II.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Kyker Funeral Home of Harriman. A Memorial Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Kyker Funeral Home of Harriman is serving the Norman Family.
