Gloria Reynolds Oakes of Andersonville, Tennessee reunited with the love of her life in the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Born April 12, 1941, to late George and Georgia Reynolds, Gloria lived to accomplish many goals in Christ. A beloved member of Bethel Baptist Church, Gloria was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director, and Director of Discipleship training. Gloria retired from Y-12 Nuclear Plant in administration and spent her earned time Instructing CPR, Gardening, Quilting, Traveling, Camping, Entertaining, and watching UT sports.
Gloria, beloved wife, mother, grand, and great-grandmother is preceded in death by husband, Carl Oakes, whom she met at sixteen while working at Norris Drug Store. Parents, siblings Gelna Beaty, Sue Tate, and Darrell Reynolds, and grandson Hunter Oakes.
Gloria married Carl Oakes of Andersonville in 1960, where they raised the following survivors, children Paul Oakes of Andersonville and Lea Oakes-Martenis of Kingston, grandchildren, Ashley (Chad) Chuako of Knoxville, Chad Loy of Andersonville, Kendra (Nate) Coon of Kingston, Vincent Oakes of Knoxville, Jacob Oakes of Florida, and Helena McGilvery of Knoxville. Gloria’s grandkids blessed her with 8 great-grandchildren: Bryton, Kaedynce, Rhiannon, Maggie, Tucker, Karli, Carter, and Tanner. Surviving sister Linda (Cecil) Hopson of Arizona
Gloria will be remembered by friends and family on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 pm in the Chapel. Family and friends will meet Monday at 10:30 am and go in funeral procession to Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment. Pallbearers will be Chad Loy, Vincent Oakes, Jacob Oakes, Chad Chuako, Nate Coon, Bryton Loy and JD Oakes. www.holleygamble.com
