Martha Cary Davidson entered into the arms of her loving Savior on August 15, 2024, after a months-long illness. She was born March 3, 1952, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to Elva Ernest “Buzz” Cary and Ellen Claire Porterfield Cary.
Her time in Oak Ridge was filled with many memories and the beginnings of lifelong friendships, attending Oak Ridge High School and graduating from Clinton High School. She then went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville. Go Vols! Transitioning with her family from Tennessee to North Carolina she later earned her Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Throughout her life she served those around her, retiring in 2018 to spend time with her grandchildren and other close friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her beloved brother, John Hale Cary.
She is survived by her daughter Emily Davidson Smith, her son-in-law Lee, grandchildren Isaac and Eden of Garner, NC; along with nieces Laura Simmons (Steve), Rebekah Garrett, Christin Payne (Lenny), nephew John Cary, Jr. (Jennifer), as well as many other cousins and lifelong friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Lee Smith on Thursday, August 22, at noon (visitation preceding at 11:00 am) at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home Chapel of Oak Ridge, TN, with interment following at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gideons International or Samaritan’s Purse.
