Charlyn Gibson, of Oak Ridge

Sister Charlyn Gibson, age 67, of Oak Ridge, was peacefully escorted by the Angel of God into eternal rest May 31, 2021.

She was born the youngest of four children to the late Lydia Ann Gibson Johnson on July 4, 1953 in Oak Ridge, TN. Charlyn attended Oak Ridge Public Schools and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1971. After graduating she attended Draughon’s Business College in Knoxville. Thereafter, she was employed in Oak Ridge at Methodist Medical Center and then at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until she retired in 2015.

Charlyn loved her family and considered her nieces and nephews as her children. She enjoyed spending time with her brother and sister–in-law, Douglas & Priscilla, on their farm in Augusta, GA. Dear and special to her was her friendship and fellowship in the Lord with her beloved friend, Brother Anthony Scales. Above all else, Charlyn was an avid reader and found abundant peace and serenity in serving the Lord. Charlyn came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord  & Savior at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Elder Tommie Lee Mims, and through the fervent prayers of her beloved sister, Robbie Clara Young. She grew graciously in the Lord and was faithfully devoted to Sunday School, worship services, being an usher, and supporting the ministries of the church. Often on Sunday mornings, Charlyn would be in the church parking lot, eating her breakfast while waiting to walk into Sunday School alongside Mother Mattie Scales and Brother Anthony. Her faith in the Lord was evident by her persistence and growth in the Lord, and by the service she rendered unto the Lord with quietness, steadfastness, purity, zeal, and humility. Charlyn suffered many afflictions of the flesh but she never faltered. Rather, she used her sufferings to prune and sharpen her faith and courage in the Lord.

Charlyn was preceded in death by mother, Lydia Ann Gibson Johnson, father, Charlie Birt, sisters, Robbie Clara Young and Belinda Kay Robinson, and niece, Ravine Rochelle Robinson.

She leaves a void in both her church and biological families. Left to cherish her memories are brother, James Douglas (Priscilla) Robinson of Augusta, GA; nieces, Belinda Annchelle Robinson of Greenwood, MS, Clara White, Betty (Benjamin) Thomas, Ivy Gail Young-Bohanon, and Pamela Lee Young all of Oak Ridge; nephews, Roderick Dwayne Stephens of Detroit, MI, Dana Dwayne Hall of Lithonia, GA, Julian Jerrell Robinson of Jonesboro, GA, and Jimmie (Chiquita) Young of Brentwood, TN; great nieces, Tiffany (Steven) Marr, Ana (Lebron) Stinson, and Lydia Renea Young; great nephews, Anthony White, Jr., Aaron (Amy) White, Jonathan Thomas, and James Andrew Young; several great-great nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, and many other extended family, friends, and loved ones.
